OpTic taken out by Gen.G at CWL Anaheim
The popular Call of Duty team couldn’t find its game against the rising stars
OpTic may be one of the most recognizable names in the Call of Duty space because of its past successes, but the team has apparently not been able to find its groove. It participated in the recent CWL Anaheim 2019 eSports competition, ultimately succumbing to Gen.G in the Black Ops 4 LAN event. It’s back to the drawing board for OpTic, as it will look at how to improve its skills for the next competition.
Gen.G’s victory was a little surprising. In the winners bracket finals, it lost to 100 Thieves, 3-0. It then began its battle against OpTic in the losers bracket finals, taking a hit in the Frequency Hardpoint competition, where it lost 250-130. It then found its mettle, thanks to Michael “MajorManiak” Szymaniak, and won Hacienda Search and Destroy 6-5 to tie the series.
The two competitors then faced off in Frequency Hardpoint, where Gen.G took the victory by a score of 3-1. That gave it a lead of 2-1 in the series, but OpTic wasn’t ready to give up. It took Gridlock Hardpoint 250-243, forcing the competition to carry all the way through the best-of-five series.
OpTic was 8-0 in Frequency Search and Destroy since it gave a stellar performance at the CWL London. This didn’t seem to concern Gen.G, who was able to solidly win 6-4 against Optic to take the series 3-2, forcing OpTic’s elimination.
Since CWL Las Vegas in December of last year, OpTic has had a difficult time finding success in Black Ops 4. The team has now come in third place with their performance at back-to-back events after winning the bronze medal at CWL London last month. The team’s latest finish isn’t too shabby, though, earning the team $50,000.
