Marvel partners with League of Legends team
Team Liquid is now sporting jerseys styled after Captain America
You know you’ve hit the big time when you’re asked to dress up as Captain America. This is exactly what’s going on with Team Liquid and its League of Legends players. Apparently, Marvel Comics has teamed up with the eSports group to create special jerseys for the team’s competition against Rift Rivals this past weekend and will continue to be worn throughout the season.
The agreement capitalizes on the fame of the Avengers movie series, as well as that of Team Liquid’s performances. It will see a complete line of Team Liquid merchandise branded with Captain America and Avengers: Endgame-related components and will include the Avengers’ quantum real suits, Iron Man-inspired jerseys, T-shirts and more.
Mike Milanov, the chief operating officer at Team Liquid, told Forbes magazine, “At Team Liquid, we always want to innovate and to think of the craziest, most awesome idea that we could pull off. We’re all huge Marvel fans, so we were intrigued by the possibilities of what a mashup between our two brands could look like. When we were introduced to Marvel, we realized that we shared so much creative energy. They were looking for a partner who wanted to think big and long term when it came to how a competitive team brand and their epic properties could mix, and it’s been an amazing collaboration.”
Team Liquid isn’t ready to ditch its typical apparel quite yet and will still use its traditional uniforms for certain events. The team’s creative director, Damian Estrada, explains, “You’ll see Team Liquid x Marvel jerseys worn during special events, but our Team Liquid colors and branding aren’t going anywhere – fans will still be able to purchase team jerseys and special edition [merchandise] from [Team Liquid].”
