CLG takes down Team Liquid in the LCS Summer Split
The former championship team is not able to find solid footing this year
Heading into the 2019 LCS Summer Split, Team Liquid had hoped to reverse the bad fortune it has experienced this year. Once the reigning team out of North America, the eSports group has had difficulty finding its groove this year, and expected to turn things around with the competition. However, its losing streak continues, this time at the hands of CLG.
After a 36-minute battle that saw Team Liquid offer, at times, glimpses of its former self, CLG ultimately emerged victorious. Team Liquid brought in some of its ringers – Olaf, Sylas, Karma, Sivir and Kennan – but they weren’t enough to overpower CLG. The latter had brought in its own ringers through Lux, Caitlyn, Aatrox and Viktor, who employed zoning tools that kept Liquid on its heels and prevented the team from being able to develop any sort of advantage.
CLG forced Liquid into a number of team challenges, keeping the pressure on the entire time. At one point, CLG stumbled when it lost one of the challenges, but the players didn’t get discouraged and quickly returned to maintain momentum and keep Liquid boxed in.
Liquid found itself repeated trapped and dealing with creative positioning on the part of Viktor and Lux. CLG proved to be too cunning, ultimately capturing its second win of the Summer Split series.
Liquid still has a couple of opportunities to recover and find success. It still has to take on OpTic Gaming and FlyQuest in matches coming up this weekend, so the team is hopefully working on a new strategy to bring its A-game.
