Mortal Kombat 11 tournament to be led by WarnerMedia
The company has hooked up with ELEAGUE for the Texas-based event
WarnerMedia is ready to get its hands dirty in the eSports arena. The company has collaborated with Turner’s ELEAGUE to make its foray into eSports and is sponsoring a Mortal Kombat 11 tournament this summer in Texas. The event will offer cash prizes as well as trips to the top players and will be held during the largest animation and gaming convention in the Lone Star State.
The tournament runs July 5-7 in Austin during the Rooster Teeth convention. It will be held at the ELEAGUE x MK 11 and presented by AT&T Fiber. There will be six open online tournaments leading up to the finals, each of which will be hosted by a top-ranked gamer in the Mortal Kombat 11 realm. All opens will be held on the Battlefy platform, giving all players a chance to win cash prizes and a spot at the main tournament.
According to WarnerMedia, “This multi-faceted initiative – the ELEAGUE x MK 11 Arena at RTX Austin presented by AT&T* Fiber – represents a first-of-its-kind deployment of WarnerMedia’s combined assets, platforms, brands and products across the videogaming and esports spaces, and will feature many of its fan-favorite content, event and game publishing brands and interests…”
The finals will be broadcast on Twitch and highlights will be provided on TBS later this summer, but no live matches will be aired. As a result, WarnerMedia’s entry could be considered somewhat subdued, but it is still an example of the growing interest in eSports and the continued attraction to the industry from a number of large companies.
