Doctor Who video game coming in September
The virtual reality video game includes some incredible interactive adventures
Doctor Who fans, the time has come. A new virtual reality (VR) Dr. Who video game is set to launch, bringing an impossible thing to life that could be called a miracle. Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will be here this September.
The video game includes the voice of Jodie Whittaker, the newest (and first female) doctor to step into the TARDIS. Players will be able to embark on an adventure through space and time, armed with the sonic screwdriver, as they set out to solve puzzles, battle monsters and find new horizons in an effort to locate the Doctor and destroy an evil force that is wiping out the fabric of reality.
According to the head of digital entertainment and games for BBC, Bradley Crooks, “VR is the perfect home for a truly immersive Doctor Who adventure. Fans and newcomers alike will be able experience the universe of Doctor Who like never before, working with the Doctor and facing enemies new and old. Gaming is a key part of the future of Doctor Who and allows us to tell new and exciting stories beyond the TV screen.”
The game will be available for the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus, HTC Vive and Vive Cosmos. The game is being published by PlayStack and was developed by Maze Theory. PlayStack CEO Harvey Elliott asserts, “Virtual Reality is unmatched in its ability to transport people to far-flung worlds. PlayStack has always seen this as the central promise of the technology, and for us there’s no better place to take players than the iconic, eccentric, and deeply fascinating world of Doctor Who. We are delighted to be working with Maze Theory and the BBC Studios on this flagship VR project and can’t wait for fans to experience the game for themselves.”
