Yelp recognizes cryptocurrency
The popular business information site gives a nod to digital currencies
There’s no denying the fact that cryptocurrency adoption hasn’t happened as quickly as many had expected. However, it is, nonetheless, happening and signs pop up now and then to show how much of a role crypto is playing in everyday life. The latest example comes via Yelp, the go-to site for business information and reviews, which has added “Accepts Cryptocurrency” as a search filter on the site. As simple as that, 30 million visitors to the site now will see crypto every time they perform a search.
California-based Yelp is used every hour by web surfers looking for information on businesses, including locations and hours, as well as user reviews. The service is available for mobile apps and PCs and is one of the most popular review portals available. That popularity now has the potential to be used to crypto’s favor, giving digital currencies yet another channel of publicity and exposure that will help to bring them to mainstream use.
The advantage of offering “Accepts Cryptocurrency” as a filter will serve Yelp users as much as it will the retail community. Users now have an additional measure with which to target their search results and refine lists to only those options they truly want to see. In addition, merchants will quickly understand that users are choosing the filter, which gives their competition an advantage. As such, it will force them to at least consider adding crypto as a payment option, which is going to help spread global crypto adoption.
