Suspect arrested in casino armed robbery
Montana police caught up with the suspect the day after the robbery
This past Monday, a casino in Great Falls, MT became the latest to be targeted in an armed robbery. While the thief initially got away with an unspecified amount of money, it didn’t take long for him to be apprehended and he is now being held in a local jail on charges of theft and robbery.
The Great Falls Police Department reports that a subject entered the Emerald City Casino Monday night, threatening a clerk with a gun. He was wearing a black ski mask and aviator-style sunglasses and was able to make his getaway on foot after being given the cash.
The hunt for the suspect got underway, but it was the criminal’s own actions that led to his undoing. The following morning, police dispatch received a call about an argument between a man and a woman in a vehicle. Police were dispatched to the scene, where the made a startling revelation – the man was the same wanted for the robbery the previous night.
Perhaps the duo was arguing about how to spend their sudden windfall – more hooch or perhaps some illicit drugs. Either way, things got out of hand and they created a scene. When police searched the vehicle, they found the cash – and the aviator sunglasses, positively identifying the man as the perpetrator of the crime.
The crook was ultimately identified as 33-year-old Carl Robert Tibbets. He already has a criminal record and has convictions for escaping from a detention facility in Yellowstone County and criminal mischief in Cascade County.
