Ripple’s XRP now available in some ATMs
A pilot program is exploring XRP transactions in ATMs for the first time
Cryptocurrency ATMs have been available for years, giving crypto fans the ability to purchase, and in some cases buy, digital currencies with limited hassle. Support for Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Ether (ETH) is found in virtually all of the ATMs, but Ripple’s XRP has been absent from the mix. That is now changing, as an ATM supplier is running a pilot program to offer XRP support in automated tellers. The program is currently underway in New Jersey and, if it goes well, could spread nationwide.
The ATM is offered by BelcoBTM. A video has been made available showing a user purchasing XRP from the ATM, which is sent to a TrustWallet wallet. BelcoBTM uploaded the video to Twitter, adding the caption, “Fees are a little high but still #XRP in an ATM is a gamechanger [sic], glad to be from the first users of this service. #xrpcommunity #xrparmy #xrpthestandard #xrpthebase.”
This could be the beginning of mass adoption for XRP, something that has been a long-time coming. One XRP enthusiast, Misty Sins, responded to the tweet, stating, “That’s great! Thanks for sharing. I cant [sic] wait to see XRP listed on the Crypto ATM’s here in Vegas.”
Ripple continues to innovate to bring XRP to the masses and a new Ripple app has been introduced to give retailers an easier solution for allowing consumers to pay with XRP. XRPayments has been developed for Android and iOS devices and allows any compatible device to be used as a point-of-sale system, allowing merchants to accept XRP instantly.
