Popular social media personality kicked out of WSOP tourney
Catherine Valdes is bumped after a controversial decision on her part
Catherine Valdes, better known as “catrific” on social media, recently made a major faux pas at a WSOP event in Las Vegas. While there has been some difference of opinion on how the events went down, what is known is that she ended up at a different event than what she had intended and was ultimately kicked out of the game amid a serious amount of public ridicule that didn’t need to take place.
Hearing catrific’s side of the story, she had intended on playing in the $400 NLHE event, but was ultimately directed to the $1,700 Main Event. She was given 30,000 chips, instead of the requisite 15,000, but chalked it up to her novice status. She acknowledged to herself that something seemed off, but decided that she had either misunderstood the rules or some other mistake had led to the discrepancy.
She played for over two hours, busting a player and growing her stack and decided that it was now definitely too late to speak up. A floor supervisor, who realized a mistake had been made, approached her at the table and called her out in what she called an unprofessional manner, adding that his attitude would have discouraged from ever playing again had she been a completely novice player.
Eventually, things were worked out and catrific moved on, but not before posting about the adventure on her social media accounts. The comments were mixed, with fans showing sympathy and poker player showing a little animosity. Since she admits she felt something was wrong from the start, then she had the obligation to bring it up at that time. By not doing so, she wrongfully eliminated a player and completely skewed the table’s outcome.
