Locations for Overwatch Contenders Showdown announced
Two countries will host the events next month
The Pacific and Atlantic Showdown events for the Overwatch Contenders competitions have now been announced by Blizzard. The tournaments will see the top teams from all eight regions of the Contenders space come together during breaks in the Overwatch League in order to “maximize scouting opportunities for the game’s up-and-coming professionals.”
The Pacific Showdown will run May 24-26 in Shanghai, China. The Atlantic Showdown is scheduled for Krefeld, Germany from May 31-June 2. Each competition will see participation by the top teams in four inclusive regions, and all events will be broadcast live. The Pacific Showdown begins each day at 1 PM local time and the Atlantic Showdown begins on Friday and Saturday at 4 PM Central European Summer Time (CEST) and on Sunday at 5:30 PM CEST.
The matches will be played as first-to-three wins, except the Grand Finals. That competition will be first-to-four.
Also on tap is the Overwatch Gauntlet, which was first revealed in February. It will run October 9-13 and will have ten total invites – 12 original Showdown invites minus the Showdown results. Those teams that come in 5th or 6th place in the Showdown will lose an invite for their region and those teams who finish in first place in the Showdowns will pick up an additional invite.
According to Blizzard, “The Gauntlet’s tournament format will emphasize interregional competition for maximum excitement. We’ve scheduled it after the conclusion of the 2019 Overwatch League season, when teams will once again prepare to sign players for the following season.”
