LA Valiant gets new assistant coach
The new coach is meant to help the team turn around its dismal Overwatch performance
In Season 1 of the Overwatch League, the LA Valiant did extremely well, ending up with a 27-13 record. They finished the year in second place, but have not been able to repeat that success in the current Season 2 and have been looking for a way to turn their luck around. They believe they have found it through a strong Overwatch player, Marvin “Promise” Schroder, who is now part of the LA Valiant’s coaching squad.
According to a tweet by the Valiant, “Please give a major Valla welcome to our new Assistant Coach @Promise_OW! We are excited to have you join the fight.”
Promise is the former coach of the Florida Mayhem. The Mayhem decided to use an all-Korean roster, pushing Promise out and in need of a new home. Before arriving to Overwatch, he also served as the coach of the Young and Beautiful, a team in the European Contenders organization.
He joins Valiant as the squad is seeking a new head coach after it let go Moon Byungchul after just a few games. After eight games in the season, Valiant had yet to score a win.
Promise will work alongside Faraz “Stoop” Waris and Shin “DongSu” Dong-soo as Valiant’s assistant coaches and Mike “Packing10” Szklanny, who is currently the interim head coach. The team will play its next game tomorrow at 6 PM Central against the Atlanta Reign. Perhaps having more coaches will give the team the edge it’s looking for.
