Halo Infinite reportedly the most expensive video game ever
The upcoming video game is the latest in the Halo franchise
The next version of the Halo video game franchise could be the most expensive yet. According to Xbox Dynasty, a German website that tracks everything-Xbox, Halo Infinite is coming soon and could cost over $500 million. Making the amount more staggering is that it only covers development – not marketing and distribution.
If the price is accurate, Halo Infinite will be more expensive to make than either Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto 5. Both were produced by Rockstar Games, a video game developer that isn’t shy about investing big into its games.
By way of comparison, some of the most expensive first-person shooter games – Call of Duty: Modern Warfar2 and Destiny – didn’t break the $300-million mark.
Halo Infinite will reportedly be an open world game, which typically requires larger development investments. Xbox Dynasty, however, has not been able to provide any details substantiating its source for the $500-million figure and the site has, from time to time, not had the best track records with the information it has disseminated.
Halo Infinite was unveiled as the sixth major entry in the Halo series during E3 2018. It uses the Slipspace Engine, an in-house platform for the development of future games in the Halo franchise and Slipspace reportedly carried a huge price tag, which could be part of the reason the price for Halo Infinite has skyrocketed.
Halo Infinite is being developed by 343 Industries for Microsoft and the Xbox console. The head of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross, said last month that the next iteration is designed as a “spiritual reboot” of the franchise, and more details are expected to be released at E3 2019.
