$500,000 Fortnite competition coming this weekend
The competition is a prelude to the upcoming Fortnite World Cup
In anticipation of the Fortnite World Cup next weekend, which will offer a prize pool of $30 million, Epic Games is giving players a tournament that is somewhat easier to reach. This weekend, it will host a “warmup” tournament that has a prize pool of $500,000.
This will be a duos tournament, but it is only available to those who are in the sixth division of arena mode, or those who are in the League of Applicants. All classified players can automatically play, but only the top 1,500 pairs will advance. The tournament will end with the finals on Sunday.
The announcement of the tournament was made by Epic March 25, which didn’t give players much time to prepare or to improve their games to qualify if they were lower in the ranks. Additionally, some players are complaining that Arena Mode is not well organized, with some pros arguing that they have to wait longer periods for the game in the top ranks.
Arena Mode was already a disappointment to a number of players and the recently released 8.20 patch was not popular. Because of a number of changes introduced by Epic, pro Fortnite players have to use Arena Mode in order to qualify, which means they will have less time to train.
Epic has been catching a lot of heat recently for changes that didn’t seem to be geared toward gamers. Apart from changing formats and hidden deals, it recently walked back its plan to break away from exclusivity agreements, which many in the gaming community feel is a sign of the company’s lack of integrity.
