LA Valiant fires head coach Moon
The latest season’s failures cause the team to make some changes
The LA Valiant hasn’t had an impressive performance lately. It logged a 0-7 stage record in the Overwatch League, which has been attributed to previous changes in the organization, but the responsibility has now squarely fallen on the shoulders of its coach, Moon Byungchul. He has now been let go and will be temporarily replaced by the team’s assistant coach, Mike “Packing10” Szklanny. The two other assistant coaches – Shin “DongSu” Dong-soo and Warsi “Stoop” Waris – will continue in their current roles.
According to a press release from yesterday, the GM for the LA Valiant, Michael Schwartz, stated, “We want to thank Coach Moon for his contributions to the Pacific Division and Stage 4 Championships achieved by the team in 2018. We wish him the best in the next stage of his career.”
The poor performance had been attributed by some as a result of coaching moves made during the off-season. Coaches Julien “daemoN” Ducros had joined the Paris Eternal expansion team and Jordan “Gunba” Graham moved to Boston Uprising. In addition to the coaching changes, Terence “Soon” Tarlier was traded to another Overwatch team.
The organization has also parted ways with its translator and assistant team manager, Andrew “KoreanMulan” Kim. The reason for the move has not been revealed, but Kim said on Twitter, “I have parted ways with @LAValiant today and am looking for new opportunities in OWL and beyond! I was acting assistant manager and translator for the team since last season. If anyone’s interested please contact me at [email protected] RTs appreciated!”
