Teen thief caught after robbing casino patron
The 17-year-old was nabbed after fleeing the Spotlight 29 Casino
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella, CA recently after an unidentified person was reportedly held up at gunpoint at around 3 AM. Deputies responded to the scene and it didn’t take long for them to spot the car allegedly being driven by the suspect. They gave chase, only to learn that the driver probably never attended a defensive driving course.
The suspect crashed the vehicle into the center median during the chase and was quickly apprehended. It was then that the police officers discovered that the suspect was a 17-year-old teenager. Because of his age, his identity has not been revealed. The officers gave him a courtesy ride to the hospital to be checked out and then a courtesy ride to the county lockup, reportedly not having suffered any injuries during the crash.
The teenager is being held on suspicion of armed robbery, evading police, disregard for public safety and possession of a controlled substance for sale or distribution and possession of a firearm.
No information was given regarding either the victim or the amount that was stolen. However, given that the assault took place at 3 AM, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that there may be much more to the case. As police conduct their investigation, more details will come to light and this may be a story that is revisited in the near future.
