Red Dead Online now offers battle royale mode
The online multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption 2 introduces a PUBG-like game mode
Red Dead Redemption 2 became hugely popular as a standalone video game and saw the creation of Red Dead Online (RDO) to allow multiple players to compete in the Western-themed battle. The online version has now introduced a new mode for the game, a battle royale-type game similar to Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), called Gun Rush.
Red Dead Online developer Rockstar Games announced the new mode through a press release, adding that it will follow the same type of action seen in PUBG, but on a smaller scale. It will only be able to accommodate 32 players, which is much lower than the 100 seen in PUBG. The company adds that players will “put [their] survival instincts to the test, gathering weapons and ammunition while the play area shrinks.”
This isn’t the first battle royale-type mode to be added to RDO. It previously had introduced Make It Count, a 16- or 32-player battle that offered slower gameplay and methodical combat. The game only gave players the ability to fight with a knife or a bow and arrow and there was no more loot to be found as seen in most battle royale games.
Rockstar states that it wants to add “dynamic events throughout the world,” but didn’t specify what that would entail. However, it’s possible that RDO will see additional battle royale modes in the future, as well as some multinational competition.
