LA Valiant turns to “The Office” to announce new team
The eSports team gets creative to promote its roster
Most eSports teams announce their new rosters the traditional way, simply having the members stand up to be identified. The eSports scene in Los Angeles is more competitive and teams have to be creative to stand out from the rest. The LA Valiant, one of the two teams playing in the Overwatch League, recently took an extremely creative approach to announce its new lineup, calling on the hit show “The Office” to attract attention.
The new roster was announced via a video, with each player adopting a certain member of the cast of The Office. The team’s coach, Moon Buyung-Chul transformed himself into Michael Scott (he didn’t indicate whether he was superstitious or just a little stitious), Bak ‘Kariv’ Youngseo assumed the role of Dwight and Scott “Custa” Kennedy appeared as Jim Halpert. The spot ends with Custa putting Kariv’s computer mouse in jelly in a copy of a prank that Dwight pulled on Jim on the popular show.
The full lineup for the LA Valiant includes:
– Brady ‘Agilities’ Girardi
– Jun-hyeok ‘Bunny’ Chae
– Kyle ‘KSF’ Frandanisa
– Indy ‘SPACE’ Halpern
– Pan-seung ‘Fate’ Koo
– Dae-kuk ‘KuKi’ Kim
– Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy
– Young-seo ‘Kariv’ Park
– Min-chul ‘Izayaki’ Kim
On the other hand, the Gladiators, another LA team, took a much more subdued approach to announce its new roster. The team posted a picture on Twitter last Friday, with the members appearing before the camera in their jerseys.
