NASCAR gets in on the eSports craze

NASCAR is revving up its virtual engines.  The car racing giant has partnered with Race Team Alliance and 704Games for a new NASCAR eSports league that will be made available on consoles and which will feature 16 teams with 32 drivers.  Each team in the new eNASCAR Heat Pro League will be owned and operated by current NASCAR race teams.

As of yesterday, NASCAR fans who play NASCAR Heat 3 are now eligible to qualify for what will be the first eNASCAR Heat Pro League Draft, which is scheduled to launch sometime early next year.  After the draft, the league will offer a season spanning 16 races that will end with the 2019 NASCAR Playoffs.  All races in the league are expected to be live-streamed on both and

According to NASCAR Executive VP of Innovation and Development Craig Neeb, “We look forward to taking this first step with our teams to introduce NASCAR-style racing to the massive esports audience on consoles.  Our partners at 704Games have delivered an incredible product and we are enthusiastic about engaging gamers to create new fans and grow our sport.”

Among the NASCAR teams that will see participation in the eNASCAR league are Joe Gibbs Racing, Richard Childress Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, JR Motorsports and Team Penske, among others.  Each team will designate two drivers with one competing on PlayStation4 and the other on the Xbox One console. 

704Gmes is NASCAR's eSports partner and offers simulation-style video games, including NASCAR Heat 3.  The company's CEO, Paul Brooks, said of the new endeavor, “This partnership creates a once in a lifetime opportunity for NASCAR Heat 3 players to work with a NASCAR race team and represent their team on a global esports platform.  We’re excited to bring competitive online console racing to NASCAR and promote a greater engagement between fans and gamers with the eNASCAR Heat Pro League.”
