Canadian poker pro moves on to eSports
As a poker player, Xuan Liu did well for herself. The Canadian earned almost $2 million in live-action tournaments, including four six-figure pots since 2011. She hasn't been seen much at the felt for about the past year and now we know why. Liu has decided to concentrate on her other passion and is now involved in eSports.
PokerNews recently caught up with Liu, who explained, “I’ve had a crazy couple of years. I just got out of a whirlwind relationship that gave me whiplash. I moved three times during this period and planned two weddings and two funerals. I didn’t play much poker, but I was close to another part of the community that opened my eyes to a lot of power dynamics in the poker world. I will always have at least a foot in, but I am looking to transition to doing business development in esports. Recently I’ve been learning about the industry and helping out at a Canadian company that’s building the country’s first stadium dedicated to esports.”
Liu, who hasn't cashed at a poker tournament since last year, isn't giving up on poker completely. She mentioned that she will also become a streamer for Natural8, an Asian-focused online poker portal, stating, “I haven’t always been the most exciting streamer, but I’m really looking forward to it. I felt like I was not able to express myself for a long time.”
Liu adds that she'll never give up on poker, admitting that she has worked too hard to get where she is. However, she feels - as has been pointed out by a number of high-stakes grinders - that the game has changed and that there is a lot less "dead money" than before.
