YouStake backers rewarded handsomely for Hellmuth win
Two cash game sessions on Poker After Dark this week saw Phil Hellmuth keep his dream alive as he earned almost $300,000. While the news is certainly welcome to the poker pro, it is even better for those that backed him through the YouStake website. They took home over $60,000.
The 15-time WSOP bracelet winner was a highlight of this week’s "Under The Gun" series on Poker After Dark. From Tuesday to Wednesday he sat down against other well-known players such as Randall Emmett, Eli Elezra, Jennifer Tilly and Jean-Robert Bellande. The Poker Brat earned $294,000 across the two days – $91,500 on Tuesday and $203,100 on Wednesday – to be the show’s big winner.
According to YouStake data, over 100 fans staked the player, and will all take a piece of the action. With an average take of $600, it’s not a bad return on the investment.
Things didn’t look good for Hellmuth on the second night. Soon after the cards started flying on Wednesday, he was already in the hole more than $10,000. However, with $7,000 still in front of him, he was able to turn the tables and his huge win against Bellande on the penultimate hand of the night secured a huge payday for both Hellmuth and his backers.
Hellmuth has received a fair amount of criticism over his backing schemes in the past. During this summer’s $10,000 WSOP buy-in event, he charged a markup of 80%, while most typically charge only 50%. Several players called out the markup as "absolutely pathetic," but his performance helped several backers earn some extra spending cash. Among his seven cashes during the games, he picked up a first-place win for $485,082 at the $5,000 NLHE event.
