PUBG Announces its First Mobile Esports Tournament
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is making its official launch as a mobile esport with the Player Well Known Invitational. PUBG Corp. The title's first mobile event kicks off tonight at 8 p.m. PT. The event will live stream on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
The PWK Invitational includes a group of 16 high-profile streamers in North America who each formed squads with groups of their friends and fans. Each of the invited participants has at least 1,000 followers across the various streaming platforms.
The event was announced as PUBG's mobile version surpassed 100 million downloads in the West – the total of downloads including China, Japan, and Korea is much higher. A few of the well-known gamers invited include Grimmmz, Melonie Mac, Halifax, TSM Viss, STPeach, and Chocotaco
PUBG Corp. and Tencent plan to elaborate on the Player Well Known idea by expanding the concept to include gaming influencers around the world. Streamers or social media influencers with at least 1,000 followers combined across their platforms and at least three friends who play PUBG can participate.
The series will include qualifiers, preliminaries, regional finals, and the world championship finals. Starting dates for the various levels have yet to be announced. However, PUBG plans to offer promotional resources as an incentive for participating influencers.
