Ante Up Poker Tour now underway in Reno
Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, NV is playing host to this year's Ante Up Poker Tour (AUPT). The series got underway yesterday and will run until August 26, offering a wide range of tournaments and buy-in options. The majority of the tournaments will only last one day, but the series' Main Event will run August 24 - 27, offering a buy-in of $1,100 and a guaranteed prize pool of $200,000.
Two tournaments were held yesterday, a $200 Warmup Bounty NLHE with a $5,000 prize pool and a "Mega Satellite" for the $50,000 tournament. There are a total of 19 different tournaments that run the normal gambit of options, including NLHE, PLO, mixed game, bounties and even a few big blind ante events. There are a few satellite games on tap for possible entry into the Main Event.
Last year, Jaime Haletky took down the AUPT main event, pocketing $49,865. There were 204 entries that helped push up the initial guarantee of $150,000, making it an impressive event. His win followed a second-place finish at the same event the previous year and gave him automatic entry into this year's main event.
Following his victory, the California resident said, “[The tournament] was kind of ugly. I was short on chips a number of times and had to come from behind to win a couple of times. I also had bad beats put on me every time I started to build a decent stack. It was really fun to actually play heads-up as most smaller buy-in tournaments are just about over when heads-up begins due to the blind size. I was just trying to slowly grind him down but after the break, he really woke up aggression-wise and I was just lucky to actually pick up a strong hand.”
