First All-Crypto Poker Tournament to be Held in Atlantic City
The Blockchain World Conference (BWC) is coming to Atlantic City this year. With it will be the first all-crypto poker tournament hosted by a casino. The conference begins today, July 11, and runs through July 13, followed immediately by the start of the crypto poker tournament on July 14.
The poker tournament is only open to individuals who attend the BWC Atlantic City. The tournament buy-in is set at $250 but must be paid in cryptocurrency via Blockparty, a new live event ticketing platform built on the blockchain.
Blockparty will also handle all the betting and cash-outs for the tournament in cryptocurrency. The winner of the tournament will receive two VIP tickets to the next BWC, which is scheduled for December 3-5 in Hollywood, Florida. Their prize includes a hotel package at the Diplomat which BWC values at $10,000.
During the tournament, players can win additional prizes by knocking out pros. Before the event begins, BWC will run a contest giving 10 attendees the opportunity to enter the tournament for free. The details of the free-entry contest have yet to be announced.
According to Shiv Madan, CEO of Blockparty, the event is among the first real-world applications of blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. Madan said his company's ability to provide payment services to such an event is a testament to the platform and its ability to serve mainstream applications.
Blockparty counts many independent and mainstream musicians among its clients. The Blockparty mobile app launched on the Apple store in May, allowing users to purchase music and event tickets.
