WPT season finale playing out at the Aria
The sixteenth season of the WPT series wraps up this month, with the Aria Resort & Casino playing host to the final events. The WPT Tournament of Champions Festival runs from today through May 26 and will feature a new WPT Bobby Baldwin Classic (BBC), as well as the Tournament of Champions event.
The BBC is named for 1978 WSOP main event champ and Poker Hall of Famer Bobby Baldwin, currently the president and COO of the Aria. The casino's director of poker operations, Sean McCormack, said, “Aria takes great pride in being the host of the Season XVI WPT Tournament of Champions. We have developed a tremendous festival of events, highlighted by the premiere of the WPT Bobby Baldwin Classic, and are excited to welcome the biggest names in poker to Las Vegas in May.”
The BBC tournament will be a $10,000 buy-in event and will kick off on May 20, running through May 23. The winner will be the last player of the season to qualify for a seat at the Tournament of Champions, which begins on May 24. All of the winners of WPT main tour events from this last season will go up against winners from season 15 who have paid the $15,000 buy-in. The final table action will be broadcast live from the new eSports Arena Las Vegas at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
The first event of the finale gets underway today, a $10,000 buy-in NLHE tourney. There will also be a total of five $25,000 high roller tournaments, scheduled to start tomorrow, May 19, May 22, May 23 and the last one on May 24.
