PokerStars: Kid Poker’s in an online slump
He’s one of poker’s winningest players, having raked in live-table winnings in the eight-figure range. He’s also one of poker’s most respected players and is fun to watch, especially going up against Phil Hellmuth. He’s the face of PokerStars and has consistently been a feature at the virtual felt. Despite winning over $36 million in live action, however, Daniel Negreanu seems to be in an online slump that he can’t escape.
Kid Poker has lost around $480,000 on PokerStars since he began playing online at the end of 2010. He has participated in several high-stakes matches against known online greats such as Viktor Blom, but hasn’t found his game. One particular game against Blom saw Negreanu agree to a $150,000 buy-in heads-up match several years ago, and lost after just 1,439 hands. That marked the beginning of the downturn, followed by another $120,000 loss at a rematch the following week.
After being down $492,000, Negreanu was able to make a small comeback. He improved his game to only register an overall loss of $360,000 until 2016. He dropped down once again that year after a few more games against Blom and a few others deepened his losses to more than $500,000. However, he hasn’t given up yet, and a $40,000 win in his favor in January helped to ease the pain, at least a little.
