WSOP NJ Posts Gold Ring Circuit Event for New Jersey Online Poker Players
For the first time, the World Series of Poker Circuit is hosting a gold ring event online for players in New Jersey. WSOP NJ is hosting the $365 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament on March 18, timed to coincide with the physical WSOP Circuit stop at Harrah's Atlantic City.
The online event is the first of its kind – an online tournament offering a real-world gold ring to the winner in New Jersey. It takes place on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., which is traditionally a peak hour for recreational online poker players in the state.
The WSOP erred on the side of caution with this first attempt at an online circuit tournament in New Jersey and decided not to set any guarantee. Levels last just 12 minutes, and players can rebuy up until the 150-minute mark.
Though this is the first time the brand has offered one of its coveted gold rings for players in New Jersey, it is not an entirely new concept. Online players in Nevada had the first crack at winning a gold Circuit ring. The tournament was a success, attracting 256 players and 164 rebuys.
According to Bill Rini, head of online poker for the WSOP, the Nevada event prompted players in New Jersey to begin asking when it will be their turn. Rini said he hopes to see “good numbers” for the event. In the not-too-distant future, we could see events like this run across state lines in New Jersey and Nevada with a combined player pool.
