Texas Announces Plans to Build Nation's Largest Esports Stadium
The city of Arlington, Texas has embraced esports, and in real Texas fashion, has bigger plans than anywhere else in the nation. The Esports Stadium Arlington will be the most massive esports arena in the United States with 100,000 square-feet of space dedicated to gaming.
The stadium will be located in Arlington's Entertainment District in what is now the Arlington Convention Center. The city partnered with Esports Ventures for the epic remodeling job at an estimated cost of $10 million. Early plans for the venue include space for up to 3,000 spectators.
Ron Price, CEO of the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau, emphasized the new stadium's ability to attract tourism to Arlington. Price promised the stadium would be the “most unique and technologically advanced” location of its kind in the country.
In addition to hosting the largest esports tournaments in the US, Price says the stadium will be used for gaming conventions and industry meetings. It will also offer training areas for teams, retail and social spaces, a VIP lounge, and a professional-level broadcasting studio. The city plans to recover their investment in part by selling naming rights to the stadium.
Arlington hired NGAGE Esports, a national esports marketing agency, to manage the stadium. NGAGE manages the social media, design, asset building and brand partnerships of several global-level esports brands. They produce live streams and events for OpTic Gaming and the Houston Outlaws.
Though the city is not yet known as a home for major esports organizations, it boasts an active gaming community at the University of Texas at Arlington.
