New-look Cavaliers favored in Eastern Conference odds
The Cleveland Cavaliers were the talk of the NBA trade deadline last Thursday, making several moves and complete retooling their roster.
And while it’s still too early to determine the long-term implications of these swaps, Cleveland is the clear favorite (-108 odds) to win the Eastern Conference at the Americas Cardroom sportsbook, despite sitting several games back in the standings.
Cleveland GM Kobe Altman made three trades overall last Thursday. In came George Hill, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr. and Rodney Hood. Going out were Isiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, Iman Shumpert and Channing Fry, The Cavaliers certainly made a statement last Sunday when they went into first-place Boston and emerged with a 121-99 win. The four new players combined for 49 points.
The bold trades mean that Cleveland is now younger, better defensively, and should have much better team chemistry as well. The moves may not help keep impending free agent LeBron James after this year, but James is now in good position (as the odds suggest), to make his eighth NBA Finals in a row.
