New Google Search Features Promote Esports
Google, the internet's No.1 search utility, extended significant support to the esports industry this week with new search features. Similar to the results that Google provides for movie, book, or sports team searches, it now presents a carousel of esports teams with their logos.
Nothing says a brand has made it like a featured spot at the top of Google search results. The new carousel results highlights “sports teams” (someone at Google forgot the “e”), with a separate carousel dedicated to each major esport such as League of Legends, Overwatch, and Dota 2.
Google's new esports search features also include a quick list of organization facts, like official team names, and all the games they played in each tournament series. It is an incredibly impressive basic stat display, the likes of which has never been seen before on the world wide web. Leave it to Google to make searching for absolutely anything more simple.
However, there is a downside. As of the time of this writing, the new feature does not work for all esports teams. Additionally, cross-referencing teams based on who they have played against does not consistently trigger the function.
Where available, the new feature includes knowledge panels for the teams right in the carousel. Some contain amble details from Wikipedia along with video links to YouTube, while others are mostly blank.
The new features serve as promotional tools for the teams, making it much easier for fans, sponsors, and investors to find the details of professional esports teams than ever before.
