As Pennsylvania readies for the launch of legal online poker, speculation abounds as to what the industry will look like. Which of the state’s 12 casinos will partner with online operators? At least one casino is ahead of the curve, having partnered with 888 long before the online gambling bill passed.
The location of Mount Airy Casino Resort is one of the oldest holiday destinations in the state. Hosting guests since the late 1800s, the original Mount Airy operated for over 100 years and was known as a popular honeymoon destination.
The casino that now stands in its place opened in 2007 and was the first in the state to include a hotel. As a Category 2 casino, Mount Airy features an expansive gaming floor with 1,800 slot machines and 70 table games, plus a nine-table poker room.
Mount Airy may also have been the first casino in the state to partner with an online gaming operator. Back in 2014, before online gambling legislation had been introduced in the state, Mount Airy made a deal with 888 through their former US-facing network, All American Poker.
According to Online Poker Report, the partnership still stands, meaning Mount Airy is poised to be the first casino out the gate when authorities give the go-ahead to launch online poker in Pennsylvania. 888 also happens to be the only online gaming operator currently operating in New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada – another point that could prove to be a significant advantage for Mount Airy.
