Call of Duty WWII Confirms Four Esports Modes
The upcoming Call of Duty release is shaping up to be the most esports-ready. An early look at the menu system for Call of Duty WWII confirms that the game will have four esports modes to choose from in competitive play.
Call of Duty WWII is set for worldwide release on November 3. However, a small group of PlayStation 4 players received early release disk copies of the game. On October 29, developer Sledgehammer released a patch online that finally allowed these early release players to access the game.
The patch that made the game playable was only released via an internet connection in an effort to prevent players with the early release disks from leaking what they find too far ahead of the game’s release, said Sledgehammer.
The patch did not take the entire game live but provided access to the game’s menus. There it was revealed that the game would launch with ten maps along with several multiplayer weapons. It will also launch with four competitive modes: Capture the Flag, Hardpoint, Gridiron, and Search and Destroy.
The list of competitive modes is significant for CoD esports players, not only for the options it brings but for the return of an old favorite mode. Capture the Flat was scrapped for the Black Ops III season. The mode returns as the game comes back to a boots-on-the-ground format.
Activision and Sledgehammer have yet to confirm if all four modes will be included in the upcoming CoD World League competitive season.
