Rivers Casino Schenectady to Host Capital Region Classic and Poker Night in America
Rivers Casino Schenectady has a busy schedule for the rest of August. The casino will host its second major poker tournament, the Capital Region Classic, which runs August 23 to 27. It will also host the CBS Sports Network Series “Poker Night in America.”
The Capital Region Classic boasts a minimum prize pool of $100,000. Based on the number of entrants the last time the event came to Rivers the size of the prize pool could easily double or even triple.
Registration for the tournament begins on Saturday, though entrants will be able to buy-in during the tournament up until the second half. The initial buy-in for players who start on Day 1 is $260. Those players who choose to skip the first half or buy-back in during the second half can do so for $1,100.
The Rivers Capital Region Classic in late May attracted entrants from seven states and Canada. The tournament counted over 1,000 entries, building a prize pool that reached nearly $300,000.
On August 22 and 23 the camera crew and pro players from “Poker Night in America” will be at Rivers to film the highly-anticipated King of the Hill tournament. The bracket-style heads-up tournament features Phil Hellmuth and Doug Polk, along with Dan Cates and Frank Kassela.
The tournament will stream live starting August 22 on Twitch.TV/pokernighttv, and air on CBS Sports. Only one of the four poker pros invited will be crowned King, taking the entire $200,000 pot. Casino guests are invited to watch the tournament and show filming.
