EA Teases Esports Mode for Battlefield 1
New maps, modes and more are coming to Battlefield 1 in the games esports mode. A teaser revealing EA’s plans to develop an esports mode for the game first came out during a quarterly investor call on Thursday. The news was later confirmed by EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
The teaser prompted speculation among players that the mode would arrive in the upcoming In the Name of the Tsar DLC. The expansion was first announced at E3. The new Russian stage includes a total of 12 weapons so far. The latest of which, Brusilov Keep, was just implemented on the Community Test Environment yesterday.
EA halted those hopes during the Q&A session of the call, stating that the new esports mode is still in development and will not be included in the current expansion.
Although the update containing esports mode is not expected to arrive for Battlefield 1 so soon, Wilson says it will be featured during the upcoming Gamescom next month. Fans will get an early look at the mode, and other new content that is on the way for the game – details about that content were slim.
One of the few things that are known about Battlefield 1 esports mode is that it should make competitive play a lot easier for 64 users. EA mentioned that the creation of the mode started as a way to solve difficulties they faced playing competitive matches.
EA will host a live show at Gamescom on August 21, complete with a slew of announcements for Battlefield 1 and other EA games.
