Top 3 Possible Free Agent Contract Values
With the 2017 draft over it is now time for NBA teams to turn their sights over to the Free Agent market. This year should bring record-breaking deals due to the league’s new collective bargaining agreement. However, this year’s field of FA prospects is shallower, and most big names are set to resign with current teams. This is the case with Golden State and two of its biggest names.
However, despite the shallow field, there are important players up for grabs, here is an estimate of their new signing salaries.
The Los Angeles Clippers will be looking to retain one of their primary assets in Blake Griffin during free agency. Despite his recent stream of injuries, Griffin is still an essential part of the team, and in a market where the Lakers are on the rise, they need to make sure they can re-sign him. According to experts, the Clipper will most likely be looking to offer Griffin a five-year $170 million contract to stay competitive in an already difficult conference.
On the market as well is one of the NBA’s most highly praised players and many championship ring holder Stephen Curry.
However, despite his free agent status, the player confirmed he is not interested in leaving the Warriors. Curry was clear in saying free agency is not appealing to him as he is no looking to move anywhere and is happy with his current situation. There is little surprise to fans in his statement as the team is the current champ and will most likely continue its reign for years to come. However, to retain Steph, it is estimated Golden State will have to agree to five years and $200 million.
Finally, one of the most controversial players of 2017, Kevin Durant is once again up for free agency. Durant came to the Warriors in search of a title and got just that. Now, the small forward is looking to help the team re-sign him by keeping his contract beneath the team’s allowed cap. The move comes as no surprise as Durant was heavily favored by the team and is looking to return the gesture. According to sources, his contract will most likely end up at two years and $66 million.
