Mike Sexton to Receive WPT Poker Honors Award on Saturday
This weekend the World Poker Tour will honor a world-renown poker personality and one of the founding fathers of their brand. Mike Sexton will be presented with the WPT Honors Award along with Bruno Fitoussi, who is credited with popularizing the WPT in France in the 1990s.
The only other figure in the world of poker to ever receive the award was journalist and poker player Linda Johnson. The second and third honorees, Sexton and Fitoussi, will be featured during a special dinner award ceremony on Saturday, July 1 in Las Vegas.
They say Sexton was the mastermind behind popular events such as the WPT Tournament of Champions, and even credit him with bringing together the other founders of the series, Steve Lipscomb, and Linda Johnson.
Not has Sexton been a familiar face in modern poker over the last 15 years, but he is an accomplished live tournament player as well. He most recently won the WPT Montreal C$3,500 Main Event. He also recently took on a new role as the chairman of PartyPoker.
Along with Sexton, Fitoussi has been an integral figure in furthering the WPT brand over the years. He helped popularize poker tournaments throughout Europe, becoming the face of the game for French television. Fitoussi is said to have introduced Texas Hold’em to the people of France.
The first venue to pick up the game, the Aviation Club de France, has since become one of the most popular spots for poker in the world.
