The Game Awards 2016 To Feature Michael Phelps And Run The Jewels

This week’s biggest event in the world of esports is The Game Awards 2016, which will take place on Thursday. U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and the hip hop supergroup Run the Jewels will be there along with lots of, you know, gamers and all those other people in the esports industry.

Phelps has been recruited to present the award for best esports player of the year, according to a tweet from Canadian video game journalist and television presenter Jeff Keighley.

Run the Jewels are planning an “epic performance” at the game awards. Rapper Killer Mike and El-P are kind-of a big deal ever since they were featured in this year’s Gears of War 4.

Everyone’s favorite esports stars will be featured in the awards ceremony, including this year’s big winner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok of SK Telecom T1. Faker is nominated for the best esports player award, along with Marcelo “Coldzeraa” David of SK Gaming and Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma of Team Liquid.

Hideo Kojima is slated to receive the industry Icon award, and a number of other awards winners will be selected, including best esports team, best esports game, and trending gamer. That last one will go to a streamer or media member who has made an impact on esports this past year. All the esports categories fall under the fan’s choice category.

The entire award show, ceremony, hip hop performance and all, will be live streamed around the world on Thursday night at 9 PM ET via the game awards official website.
