Oakland Moves To Stop Raiders Going To Vegas

The city of Oakland, California, sent out a strong message yesterday to Las Vegas regarding their football team, basically saying, hands off! Many people are already seeing the Oakland Raiders’ proposed move to Las Vegas as something of a done deal, with the Raiders owner himself expressing enthusiasm for a move and obstruction after obstruction being removed in the plans to build a stadium for the team in Sin City. However Oakland have plans of their own to keep the Raiders just exactly where they are.

Those plans include a brand new stadium in Oakland itself, according to a report by Bloomberg. The current Raiders stadium is inadequate for the team’s needs and the Oakland mayor believes that if he can build one in the city to match or better the proposed Las Vegas one, then the team will not have the incentive to leave.

The mayor of Oakland has a powerful ally in NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who has also been clearly on the record as saying that he wants the Raiders to stay in California. Another reason that might make the Raiders stay is the fact that the main benefactor of the Vegas stadium, Sheldon Adelson, has been pessimistic in his outlook over the Raiders coming, making remarks that they might be too difficult to deal with.

It looks like there will now be a major fight between Oakland and California as to who will win the affections of the team.
