Todd Brunson and Carlos Mortensen To Be Inducted In Poker Hall Of Fame

The newest players to be inducted in the Poker Hall of Fame in 2016 will be Todd Brunson and Carlos Mortensen. The decision was announced by the World Series of Poker on Thursday. The induction ceremony will be held Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m., at Binion's Gambling Hall in Las Vegas.

Several amazing players and contributors to modern poker were nominated this year including Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, Eli Elezra, Bruno Fitoussi, Chris Moneymaker, Max Pescatori, Matt Savage and David Ulliott. Since players can be nominated more than once they may have a chance next year.

A panel of 44 judges, mostly former Hall-of-Famers and a few from poker media, made the final decision. Brunson and Mortensen will become the 51st and 52nd inductees into the PHOF, an outstanding honor that validates the years of grinding they have both dedicated to felt.

“It's a true honor to be inducted by my peers into this prestigious institution,” said Brunson, 47, who technically became eligible 7 years ago. A long-time member of the poker scene, Brunson says he “grew up attending these ceremonies.” He is the son of Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, who was inducted into the PHoF in 1988.

Mortensen says this is an honor he has always wanted, “to be included among the great players who make up the Poker Hall of Fame.” A professional poker player from more than 20 years, Mortensen has the unique claim of winning more money at the World Poker Tour than any other player.
