Sam Panzica Wins 2016 WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble
After a long and trying heads-up match with Richard Malone Jr., Sam Panzica claimed his first World Poker Tour title as the winner of the 2016 bestbet Bounty Scramble. It took the two players more than 145 hands to determine a winner.
The achievement earned Panzica several prizes including a Hublot King Power Unico Carbon and Red Watch, a set of Monster 24K headphones, and of course the $354,355 first place prize. He will also have the honor of seeing his name on the Champions Cup.
Before entering a lengthy heads-up battle Malone was moving fast with eliminations. He managed to clean out the four other players in the first 40 hands. Paul Balzano was eliminated on the very first hand by Malone. Not long after, returning champion Noah Schwartz busted out in the same fashion.
Tyler Patterson, the last remaining WPT winner at the table, would go out in fourth place in a double elimination with Ankush Mandavia by Malone. Mandavia came into the double-knockout hand with more chips than Patterson, earning himself a third place finish.
Although he had a 2-to-1 chip lead on Panzica as the two went into their final showdown, Malone's elimination spree had ended. Panzica played the long game, slowly overtaking Malone to turn the tables to a 3-to-1 advantage. He won the final pot with two pair.
The tournament was Panzica's third win of the year and his sixth final table. It brought the Michigan native's year-to-date earnings up to an impressive $1,001,908.
