Netflix CFO Enthuses Over Bitcoin
The Chief Financial Officer of Netflix, David Wells, has been talking about Bitcoin at a conference organized by the Citigroup, where he expressed great optimism and hope that one day the digital money would become an overall global currency. At the conference, it was reported by Market Realist that Wells said, “It sure would be nice to have Bitcoin in terms of a global currency that you could use globally.”
It's been know for some time that Netflix has been interested in adding Bitcoin as a form of payment for its services, although that hasn't been implemented as yet. But Netflix sees Bitcoin as a way to limit an increasing amount of payment fraud that it has been experiencing around the world in many of its markets, especially when it comes to their gift and prepaid card systems. Netflix is also interested in gaining more subscribers for its service in parts of the world that are underbanked, and believe that Bitcoin can be a solution to that. More people are now, according to Netflix, streaming it's service through their mobile devices rather than through computers or TVs, so the company expects to be able to expand and reach out to millions of more people if they can offer them alternative ways to pay.
