Esports Sitcom Coming To YouTube Red
Video game fans have a whole new reason to subscribe to YouTube Red with the announcement of an upcoming esports sitcom. Six episodes starring a slew of familiar names in gaming media have already been confirmed for the upcoming comedy series.
The sitcom was announced by YouTube via Variety on Monday, along with several upcoming titles for their new premium service. For those not yet familiar with YouTube Red, it is the new ad-free version of YouTube that comes with several premium extras such as unlimited access to Google Play Music, offline viewing, and exclusive tv-like content. Writers Sarah Carbiener and Erica Rosbe are in the project as well.
The show, which has yet to be named, will be produced by Dan Harmon and Starburns Industries. Michelle Morrow and Jesse Cox are among the gaming stars who will appear in the series, and the two will have executive producer credits as well.
In typical television style, each 30-minute episode will be scripted for maximum one-liner delivery. It stars Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan, who fans will recognize from Gamegrumps. “We are excited to be the ones finally bringing video game content to YouTube,” Harmon joked in a recent press release.
The show is set to make its debut in 2017 on the Game Grumps YouTube Red channel. It will be covered in the $9.99 monthly YouTube Red subscription fee, along with several new shows announced on the service, such as a time travel thriller from The Rock and a sequel to Dough Liman's “Jumper.”
