Global Poker League Gets Underway With LA's Maria Ho Victorious
After a bunch of speculation about the health of Alex Dreyfus's Global Poker League (GPL) in recent weeks since it took its extended hiatus after the summer session ended, things finally kicked off again yesterday and matter turned to what matters most about the whole thing - the poker itself.
Week Nine of the inaugural GPL season was marked by two heats taking place, in Europe and in North America. On the other side of the pond the Berlin Bears' Dominik Nitsche beat Dario Sammartino of the Rome Emperors to put the Bears within one point of removing themselves from the bottom of the Eurasian league table.
Here in the North American Conference, Maria Ho, captain of the Los Angeles Sunset team was in action, taking down Jason Mercier's New York Rounders and earning her team the full seven points. In the North American league table, LA are still embedded in second place behind the Montreal Nationals. Both Montreal and LA are well ahead of the rest of the pack in the North American Conference and the smart money would be that one of these two teams are more than likely going to be making their way to the finals. Out of the six North American teams, Las Vegas is languishing at the foot of the table and it seems that those guys can do both right.
The GPL is in action again today.
