Dr. Bronner's Pledges Major Donation To Marijuana Legalization
The famous pure-castile soap maker for Starship Earth is showing major support for marijuana legalization. In an announcement that is totally not surprising at all for anyone who has made bathroom reading of the soap's eccentric packaging, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap pledges to give $660,000 to pro-marijuana campaigns in five states.
The California-based body care product company has been a staple in natural in natural product marketplaces across the country for nearly two decades. Renown for their hemp-based soaps and organic leadership, they plan to partner with leading cannabis activists including the Marijuana Policy Project and New Approach.
The announcement follows recent news that Dr. Bronner's has decided to leave the Organic Trade Association. Still staunchly committed to producing organic soaps, the company says they will pursue other organic organizations that more “authentically and courageously represent the vision of regenerative organic agriculture,” as stated on their website.
One of those new organic avenues for Dr. Bronner's is the Rodale Institute's Organic Farming Association.
In addition to supporting marijuana legalization campaigns in California, Massachusetts, Maine, Arizona and Nevada, the soap maker also announced plans to make sizable donations to other major causes.
They gave $250,000 to the Fairness Project, a group fighting to raise the minimum wage in several states, and $100,000 to the Humane Society of the United States for their Yes on 3 campaign, which aims to end the cruel treatment of farm animals in Massachusetts. Their commitment to cannabis reform is by far the largest of the “welfare battles” the company listed in the recent announcement.
