Player of the Year: Speidel Jumps to Second Place only 12 points behind Dibella
The first month of the Card Player Player of the Year is yet again, full of action with another action-packed week on the tournament circuit coming to an end. Here are all of the major results from this week. Play Poker Online
Aussie Millions
The 2012 Aussie Millions finished with two huge events and reached its conclusion in Melbourne, Australia. Oliver Speidel was the winner among 659 players in the $10,000 AUD Main Event and became the winner of $1.6 million AUD, a diamond-encrusted gold ring, a Rolex watch, and an Aussie Millions trophy.
Speidel had previously made two final tables, and finished second in a $1,000 AUD no-limit hold’em shootout and sixth in a $1,500 AUD no-limit hold’em bounty. With these points, the Melbourne native has moved into second place in the Player of the Year standings with 2,500 points and year-to-date earnings of $1,689,109.
But not Speidel rocketed into the top ten because of a final table in this Main Event. Joining him is runner-up Ken Wong, third-place finisher Mile Krstanoski, and fourth-place finisher Mohamad Kowssarie.
Phil Ivey fell short of the main event final table also, finishing in 12th for $102,947 but,he was determined to win so he promptly bought into the $250,000 AUD High Roller.
In the end, Ivey won this $4,117,895 prize pool, beating Patrik Antonius heads-up to secure the title, and the $2 million AUD prize.
Ivey is now in a tie for 32nd position in the overall standings. Poker Site
For his runner-up finish, Antonius earned $1,235,369 and the only other player to make the money was third-place finisher Gus Hansen, who pocketed $823,579. Daniel Negreanu was eliminated on the money bubble in fourth place.
WSOP Circuit Caesars Palace
Kevin Calenzo won over another 662 players WSOP Circuit Caesars Palace $1,600 main event, he got to take home $197,451 in cash, and his first WSOP Circuit gold-ring.
Gary Bolden won two gold rings at Caesars, the second player of the season to win two events in one stop. Bolden won one pot-limit Omaha and another in no-limit hold’em, securing him the player of the series title.
Bryan Devonshire, defeated Eskimo Clark in a $1,080 no-limit hold’em event and earned $55,291.
IPT San Remo
Oleksii Kovalchuk is already winning in 2012 as he captured the Italian Poker Tour San Remo €2,200 main event title for €175,000. For this, he won over 350 other players in San Remo and earned 600 POY points.
The Million Dollar Heater
John Dolan took down The Million Dollar Heater $5,000 Main Event in Mississippi as he topped the 210-player field to earn the title, and $336,105 first prize which put him into a tie for the 21st position.
